Is Linux a Viable Gaming Platform?
Imagine games on Linux - I wonder if you can - No need for dual booting - A magnificent plan! The setback from major game developers porting their titles to Linux has been profitability. The Linux community can not logically hold it against a game developer for porting to such a small segment of the market. Directory:

Cisco Finds Social Networks, Random Devices Pose Security Risks
The results of a new enterprise security survey should be reliable; they stem from a poll involving 500 IT security professionals based in five different countries. They're not likely to make enterprise security experts happy, however, as they show that users often disregard rules in order to use social networks and unsupported devices at work. Directory:

Seagate Steers Buyers Away From SSDs
When a company urges consumers to buy the latest and greatest thing, the message/advertisement can often be ignored. Seagate has taken the opposite approach, however, informing individuals (and companies) that solid-state drives aren't for everyone, and that idea definitely deserves some attention. Directory:

Supply Chain Management Software Market Withstands Recession
Although it's often hard to see negative numbers and then think positively, new data from Gartner may deserve that reaction. Gartner found that worldwide supply chain management software revenue decreased only 0.7 percent between 2008 and 2009, which doesn't seem bad considering how the global economy was performing at the time. Using Local Search Optimization To Boost Your Ranking
I am knee deep in a project for a client that is designed to take their national presence and represent it locally (in Google primarily) through making sure their 28 local branches are found in local searches. It's an interesting process and is not as easy or clear-cut as it sounds. The project, in fact, has made me wonder just how many companies like my client exist out there. Directory:

How Vendors And Strategists Differ In The Social CRM Space
After spending a lot of time speaking and interacting with vendors and strategists in the Social CRM space it became very clear to me that vendors and strategists (or consultants or analysts or whatever else you want to call them) are on a very different page when it comes to understanding and explaining what Social CRM is and/or does. I think what we are seeing now (also in the E2.0 space) is a space which is being "pulled" by vendors so to speak. I realize it's not this cut and dry and that not all vendors fall into the "vendor" mindset and that not all strategists fall into the "strategist" mindset. Having said that let's a take a look at where the disconnect might be between vendors and strategists. Directory:

SysAdmin Documents Encounter With Conficker
Monty Python fans may remember a certain sketch in which characters promise to show an audience how to cure all diseases. Then the advice doesn't go much beyond "become a great doctor, cure something, and make sure your colleagues do their jobs right." Too many security articles follow this route, as well, but a new one provides a more useful look at how an IT administrator was hit by (and overcame) a virus. Directory:

How To Rename File Sequentially In Linux
As part of some user interface testing I'm involved with on an Ubuntu Linux system, I find myself frequently having to rename groups of files in a sequential manner. That is, I'll have files like "output mm-dd-yyyy at hh:mm:ss" and need to rename them to "testrun-xx-file-yy". Is there any way to automate this so I don't have to go crazy typing? Directory:

Cooking with SQL: Short and Sweet
One of my fondest childhood memories revolves around my Grandmother's cooking. She was able to take out store bought hot dogs, boil them in a pot of water, and serve them up on piece of bread for many of my childhood lunches. Likewise, one my of fondest SQL memories is the first time I used conditional statements in my SQL to significantly shorten my overall code. Nothing better than hot dogs and SQL... Directory:

An Educational Web Hosting Horror Story
Every CTO worth his (or her) salt considers a number of factors when picking a company to handle business domain names and email, including price, reliability, and ease of setup. The Snowball-Effect of Embedded Tweets
Building a large following on Twitter is easy. Attracting targeted followers, who are actually interested in what you have you have to say, is not so easy. Anyone can mass-follow thousands of random people and expect a fair few to follow back - many users use a ‘followers' total as a kind of status symbol and will happily return the favor, just to keep you on their list of followers. Google's Approach To Handling Employees Laid Out
Like it or not, Google is the place to be. Just about any person who's familiar with how the company works would drop whatever he (or she) is doing in order to take a job with it. And Google works, too, consistently thrashing its rivals. So consider modeling aspects of your firm after the search giant. Directory:

White Papers, Social Media Judged To Be Symbiotic
White papers and social media may seem to be at odds with each other at times; it can feel as if sites like Facebook and Twitter have shortened people's attention spans to the point that white papers are of little interest to anyone. Still, at least one expert thinks white papers and social media complement each other. Directory:

Gaining Insight On Individual Customers And Their Influence
There is little doubt that customers are ruling the roost right now - to a point that should be of concern to business - and a reason to rejoice. The Battle Over Best-Of-Breed Vs. Integrated Suite Continues
The best-of-breed vs. integrated suite battle has been ongoing since integrated ERP software first came on the market. In the early days, buyers were forced to choose between standalone systems that performed one function very well (e.g., accounting, production planning) or one integrated system that offered modules for each function, but with varying degrees of functional depth. Moving Beyond CRM To The Future Of SRM
In Engage!, I review the important catalysts and methodologies defining the new era of Social CRM or sCRM. Hitachi Releasing A Hybrid SSD with Optical Drive
When developing and manufacturing netbooks, notebooks, and other portable computing devices, there's always a balance between power and mobility.
