Understanding Search Engine Results Pages
Question: Since registering with LookSmart and paying $400 for the link, we have had significantly less enquiries than before we paid for the listing. We manufacture a woodburning machine, which we have sold throughout Australia and overseas. We feel that we made the wrong decision to pay for the listing and your advice would be appreciated.

Submitting to Inktomi + 5 More SEO Tips
Jill, I've been working on optimizing a site that is not a new site. It's been a live site for quite some time. I was thinking of hand-submitting it to Inktomi, but realized MSN and Hotbot have already indexed it without me doing anything. Is it necessary to pay to have your site submitted if it has already been indexed for free? Is it possible that it will be dropped from Inktomi if you don't pay to submit? Thanks for your help, Mary Beth

Pay Per Click Search Engine Basics
Pay per click search engines let you set up an account with an initial deposit, and then bid for the top positions in the search results pages for keywords or keyphrases that you are interested in. Your bid will typically be set in cents or dollars per click. When a prospect clicks on your link, you are charged the amount of that bid.

Increase SEO Sales by Teaching Clients about SEO Truths
In private consultations with some Search Engine Optimizers I am always amazed at how many people feel it's necessary to hype things up in order to sell their search engine placement services.

Discover Which Sales Triggers are Most Effective When Mixed With SEO!
We all know the importance of gaining top visibility to a specific target audience on the major search engines. After all, you really need qualified traffic or those who are actually searching for goods and services that you are offering. While most of the time, we teach folks about the importance of doing good keyword research and/or behavioral research to ensure they are attracting an "ideal" target audience, there is another more natural aspect that I'd like to just touch on here.

Getting Your Web Site Listed in the Google Index
Reader Question: I have submitted my site to the major search engines including Google and DMOZ (Open Directory Project). I'm not getting much traffic to my site and believe this is largely because the site can't be found on Google. We've used the proper meta tags, meta-description and header bar, even the home page body is keyword rich. I've been busy getting links to the site from other relevant sites.
