Some Believe That Tysabri Will Be Back
Analysts believe that multiple sclerosis drug Tysabri may return to the market possibly as early as this year.
Biogen Idec and Elan voluntarily suspended sales of the drug after one patient died and another developed a central nervous system disease.
The companies have suspended supplying and marketing Tysabri and advised doctors against prescribing it. The companies have stopped using the drug in clinical tests as well.
According to a MarketWatch article,
"Elan Chief Executive Kelly Martin said Monday on a conference call that Tysabri could be back on the market by the end of the year, pending a thorough investigation of the health histories of patients currently enrolled in clinical trials.
Deutsche Bank analysts attributed a 50-percent probability that Tysabri returns to the market by the end of the year. They also told clients that there's a 50 percent chance the drug will never return."
"As it is completely unclear at this time whether there is a link between the usage of Tysabri in combination with Avonex and the occurrence of progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML), it is likewise uncertain if Tysabri will return to market," Deutsche said. Receive
