Sue Bolander's review of inexpensivescrubs.com

I see a number of things that I would change about this site,
especially
eliminating the use of the FONT tag, but I am only going to
address the
keyword density issues for this site.
As an example, let's look at the use of the keyword "scrubs"
on the Home
page. I like to check my keyword densities as compared to
the site that is
getting the number one ranking in Google
for the same keyword. One tool that
I like is the keyword density analyzer found at
http://www.keyworddensity.com/
I ran this analysis on the keyword "scrubs" and compared
inexpensivescrubs.com to the top-ranking Google site for the
same word. The
number one site has a density of 9.76% on the word, which
the subject site
only has a density of 3.16%. That shows that there is a lot
of room for
improvement.
There are a number of ways to increase the subject site's
density for the
word "Scrubs." Be sure to use the plural word, not the singular
form. Very
few people will search for the word "Scrub" - it's always
going to be
"Scrubs." Here is what I would do to change the site:
1. Use <H1> tags for the phrase "Inexpensive
Scrubs" at the top of the page
instead of <FONT SIZE="7"> If the <H1>
tags make the text too big, use
style sheets to reduce the size. You may get ranked better
for a keywords
included in header tags than keywords included elsewhere.
2. Replace the graphic that reads "Home of
the inexpensively-priced scrub"
with text. If possible, change your slogan to "Home of inexpensively-priced
scrubs" to get that keyword in the plural form. Your graphic's
IMG tag has
no ALT attribute at all, so you are not getting any credit
for the words
included in this phrase. If you change this to text, you will
get credit.
3. Add ALT attributes to all of your image
tags. Make them short and
keyword-rich. By not including them, you are not only making
your site less
accessible to visitors with disabilities, you are passing
up an opportunity
to include keywords. For example, add this attribute to your
image of the
people wearing scrubs: ALT="Photo of people wearing scrubs."
4. On the topic of accessibility, this site
is not friendly to users with
vision problems. For example, you use one big graphic to explain
the color
options, and the prices on the Home page are graphics only.
A blind visitor
would completely miss out on this critical information. While
you may not
care about this, keep in mind that many of the techniques
used to make sites
accessible to persons with disabilities also make the site
more friendly to
users who are using portable devices to visit the Web. What
sort of person
does that? Busy people, like doctors and nurses.
5. I would change the names of my links to
include the word "Scrubs." For
example, change "Pants Drawstring" to "Drawstring Scrubs Pants"
and so on.
Keywords in your linked text are important in rankings.
6. On the bottom of each page you include
contact information, which is
great, but put your company name on there, too. Why? Because
it contains the
word "Scrubs." Never miss out on a legitimate opportunity
to include a
keyword.
By increasing your keyword densities, you should rank better
the next time
your site is indexed.
