Peer Review of Ruthie's Music

By Chris Harriman
Contributing Writer
Article Date: 11.21.02

First the real world contact information is too well hidden if it is indeed part of the web site, phone numbers and physical mailing addresses should be easy to find, this helps to build user confidence in the company. Even the customer service page lacks and easily accessible email address, clients would need to read through the FAQ and maybe upon clicking a specific point one could get an email address but this becomes to much work for the clients and most probably will not bother, they do not NEED to do business with this company, it's not the IRS.

About the Meta-Tags, they really need work, way too many keywords in the Keywords tag. This is not a "the more the merrier" kind of thing, the more keywords present the less weight they carry. The keyword in the description do not really match the ones in the Keyword tag.

Description tag: Ruthies Music inventory includes guitars, banjos ....

Unless Ruthies is really a household name (& it's not here in Canada) this tag would be more effective reversed, what is offered should come first, if people are more likely to search for "electric guitar" than "Ruthies Music" the offerings should be more prominent than the company name. The keyword and Description tag should be consistent they should contain same keywords.

The following is the second sentence of the homepage:
"Ruthies Music is the #1 provider of music supplies in the US." I believe this is not helpful unless it's true and can be proven, I'm afraid this just sounds like a bunch of hot air to my ears and probably turns as many people away as it impresses. Alternatives like; "Ruthies Music is a major provider of music supplies in the US" or "Ruthies Music is a provider of quality music supplies in the US" are more credible, these claims do not require proof like "the #1 provider...".
