We Want Your Input
A few issues ago we briefly explained that Jayde.com does not
subscribe to the nested sub-category structure found on most
other directory sites. Rather than forcing a visitor to drill
down through 5 or 6 pages of sub-category listings to find relevant
results, we opted to make each sub-category title a searchable
keyword or phrase that dynamically brings back results from our
entire database of 1.2+ million site listings. Currently, Jayde.com
has 20 main category areas with over 220 dynamically searchable
sub-category links.
So, what do we need from you? We need your suggestions for new
sub-category links under each of our 20 main category headings.
If you think we missed a relevant area under Arts, Recreation,
Science, News, Reference or whatever, lets hear from you. We'll
incorporate the best of the ideas sent to us to make Jayde.com
a better directory for everyone. Start by looking at:
http://www.jayde.com
Then, mail your suggestions for new sub-category links to:

My 3 "Must Use" Secrets for Big Fat Subscriber Lists, by
Mark Joyner of ROIbot
It seems like everywhere you turn these days some marketing guru
is recommending you start your own email newsletter. I don't have
a problem with this. Indeed, I know it's one of the most powerful
marketing tools around.
The problem is, you need a massive list before it will really
start to pay off. I mean in the thousands. Of course, the
effectiveness of your list depends upon how much your reader
trusts you as well, but you can't argue about the power of
numbers.
My aim here is to help you build up the size of your list. These
are some of the tricks I have personally used to build up lists
with more than 100,000 subscribers. That won't happen to you
overnight, but these tips will get you on the right track:
1. GIVE THE SUBSCRIBER A *REASON* TO SUBSCRIBE
Several psychological studies have demonstrated that giving
someone a reason to comply to your request will greatly increase
their chances of compliance. And the reason doesn't even have to
be good! Amazingly, just using the word "because" will increase
your response.
2. REALLY "SELL" THE CONTENT OF YOUR NEWSLETTER
People don't know whether your newsletter contains pure junk or
gold. You could have the greatest, most informative newsletter
in the world - if you don't *tell* them, they will never know.
Now, here's the key. You don't want to tell them yourself "my
newsletter is the best". No one will believe you. The best way
to let people know how great you are is to have someone else
tell them for you!
You should get a testimonial or two about the content of your
newsletter and use this to "sell" the content of your newsletter.
3. PROVIDE AN INCENTIVE TO SUBSCRIBE
How many people offer a free newsletter? No one can know for
sure, but I'll tell you that the answer is: "too many"!
What is *unique* about what you offer? If you tie your
subscription into being able to access something unique,
I promise your subscriber rate will go through the roof.
Can you offer a free service? Can you offer a free download?
A free (and unique!) report? Access to some exclusive information?
Generate curiosity in your potential subscriber. People are
inherently curious and it is painful when curiosity is not
satisfied. Set it up so subscribing to your newsletter is the
only thing they can do to satisfy that curiosity.
Now, let's put this all together. Here is an example of a "call
to subscribe" you can use that puts all three principles together.
Put this above your subscription form for one week and I predict
your visitor-to-subscriber rate will *at least* triple:
------
"Web Pro News is fantastic.
"It's one of the very few newsletters I actually
read every time."
- Mark Joyner of ROIbot
Subscribe right now; because, for a limited time
you will be given instant access to the powerful
report: "My 3 'Must Use' Secrets for Big Fat
Subscriber Lists".
And you'll get more great tips like this in each
and every issue.
------
This should be enough to get you started. Sit down right now and
brainstorm. Think of at least 5 ways you can apply these principles
to your newsletter subscription process. Pick the best ones and
apply them *today*.
Don't be afraid to test several. Get a good log file analyzer and
keep an eye on your visitor to subscriber rate. Always use whatever
you know is your best as a fall-back.
If you don't want to change this on all of your pages, no problem!
Try a tool like FrontPage that allows you to insert a "server side
include". This way, you can change one file on your site and it
will change all of the text on your site that "includes" that file.
This is a major time saver.
