ComScore:
Google Leads Again In Search
The numbers reported for US search engine market share remained mostly unchanged
from September to October 2006, with Americans doing 6.8 billion searches during
the month.
Figures
provided by comScore's qSearch
showed Google maintained its lead in the US market, with 45.4 percent of those
searches. That represented a gain of 0.3 percent over September.
Yahoo reversed a slide that lowered them to 28.1 percent in September. They gained slightly to 28.2 in October. Microsoft gave up 0.2 percent to decline to 11.7 percent, after falling 0.6 percent in September to 11.9.
Ask.com held its 5.8 share, while sites on the Time Warner network, including
AOL, decreased to 5.4 percent. The 6.8 billion searches represented an annual
growth of search query volume, with a 33 percent rise from last year.
Sites on Google's network handled 3.1 billion queries in the period, followed by Yahoo's 1.9 billion. No one else topped one billion, as Microsoft handled 796 million search queries. Ask processed 392 million, and Time Warner did 366 million in October.
Roiled by a leaked
internal memo, Yahoo suffered a drop of 19 cents in its share price to 26.72
in Wall Street trading today. Google also ticked down 3.74 a share to 495.05 as
investors locked in profits in light trading.

What’s
Cooking For Thanksgiving?
By
Chris Richardson
Staff Writer | WebProNews
Using search engines to find recipes is not a new concept. In fact, Danny Sullivan
referenced this very thing during his keynote speech at PubCon last week (in relation
to the Martha Stewart Apprentice contest). However, thanks to Yahoo’s Buzz
blog,
we now know just what kind of recipes people are seeking out for this year’s Thanksgiving
celebration:
As you can see, there are a couple of posts dealing with Thursday’s mastication
and the first
one deals with different methods to cook Thanksgiving’s centerpiece: the turkey.
What follows are the top ten searches related to the delicious bird:
Turducken
Fried
Turkey Smoked
Turkey Roast
Turkey Turkey
Cookies Turkey
Cakes Turkey
Chili Turkey
Meatloaf Turkey
Soup Turkey
Burger
In case you are wondering what a Turducken
is, its turkey stuffed with duck and chicken. Thanksgiving stuffing (perhaps the
best side dish) acts as a buffer between each level of bird. The linked Wikipedia
article also has some good pictures of this incredible creation.

Avoiding Splog
One of the biggest critiques of blogs and blog software is how easy they can be
turned into spam machines or splogs, blogs that exist solely for the reason of
spamming. Most splogs target a specific keyphrase and try to leverage one of the
search engine advertising services with spammy content... in other words, they
offer little-to-no value. With that in mind, it is refreshing to see one of our
posters going out of their way to avoid using their blog for such purposes. Check
out what's going on below and see if you can help out. Subscribe

Blog
Spamming or Not?
I use Blogger to review my products occasionally and also post information that is intended to assist consumers in my niche. It has a little PR of "4" and has two related reciprocal links plus a handful of inbound links from directories and other blogs.
My question in regard to Spamming is: I want to link to my related e-comm related site but don't want to sink it with too many inbounds. I have a single link to my e-comm site in the side navigation bar (there are a lot of them since it's a couple years old).
Would it be better to take the side navigation link down (leads to my e-comm site's index page) and instead of that, just use an IBL from the heart of the occasional post that describes the use of one of the products I sell and hyperlink those words (as anchor text) - from the blog to a product page on the e-comm site.
Is either method preferable - are both used simultaneously, ok? |
