- Bad For Google Content Match
By far the most common strategy when it comes to building Content Match campaigns
is to simply take your existing Search campaigns and turn on Content Match. This
is a very bad idea. There are several reasons why, but Im going start today with
only one of them " the fact that not all search terms will work well in Content
Match.

Verizon

The EVDO offering from Verizon Wireless has been touted by the company as an "unlimited"

Spam
As A PR Tool
Every company wants you, the public, to know about it. And a lot of companies
would like it if certain writers conveyed the latest product information to you.
This can result in a good deal of e-mail that has a certain "spammy" quality about
it.
Facebook
Gives Away iTunes
Facebook is going give away 10 million iTunes music samplers over the next 10
weeks. Nice, right? It remains unclear who is footing the bill; that is, whether
this is a promotion for Apple or Facebook. And, to be honest, it might be best
to reserve judgment until the (artistic) quality of those samplers becomes known.
MindTouch
DekiWiki Goes Commercial
The release of a commercial open source wiki by MindTouch and announced at OSCON
also is available in a private label version for ISPs; this could be a step toward
the adoption of email alternatives to thwart spam.

Google's millions
When I searched for the words web designers, MSN listed 2,868,576, Yahoo said
75,300,000, but Google said 261,000,000 - which must be a large percentage of
the population. Unbelievable? I Googled again and found the number had increased
by 6,000,000 in a few minutes - faster than populaton increases!
Yahoo Exclusion
Issue
Purchased inclusion into INeedHits.com = Inktomi, and InfoSpider = Altavista,
both purchased by Yahoo for a group of large and successful sites, of which they
are now only returning one page as being indexed within Yahoo and that is due
to our inclusion in the Yahoo Directory Listing, all other site pages are not
showing for very large site with plenty of back links to those sites.
Google indexing
puzzle
I am doing some work in the telecoms industry and I have come across this site
that has a massive amount of pages indexed by Google. 69,500 to be precise. in
fact last week it was 68,000. they cannot possibly have this many pages, so what
is going on. Has the googlebot got stuck in a loop?

The US Congress passed a bill into law this week aimed at protecting children
from online predators. The law dictates how hyperlinks and domain names leading
to sexual content may be presented. The Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety
Act of 2006 prohibits "misleading" domain names and links.
Editor's Note: Do you agree with this legislation? Is
it a necessary measure to protect children? Or do you view it as a violation of
free speech and a law that will have unintended consequences? This will make for
a fantastic and useful discussion
in WebProWorld.
The law, which also imposes stricter penalties and limitations on sex
offenders, imposes jail time and fines on those who try to trick minors into viewing
sexual content via misspelled domain names, search, and misleading hyperlinks.
Links to such content will need to be clearly labeled as to the nature of it.
From the government press release, measures include:
- More consistent availability to the public through the Internet of information
concerning the identities and locations of sex offenders who are required to register.
- Prohibiting the insidious practice engaged in by certain sexually explicit web
sites of hiding innocuous terms in the hypertext markup language so that a search
for those terms on the Internet yields links to the sexually explicit web sites.
The language of section § 2252B
of the bill, entitled "Misleading domain names on the Internet":
(a) Whoever knowingly uses a misleading domain name on the Internet with the intent
to deceive a person into viewing material constituting obscenity shall be fined
under this title or imprisoned not more than 2 years, or both.
(b) Whoever knowingly uses a misleading domain name on the Internet with the intent
to deceive a minor into viewing material that is harmful to minors on the Internet
shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 4 years, or both.
(c) For the purposes of this section, a domain name that includes a word or words
to indicate the sexual content of the site, such as "sex" or "porn", is not misleading.
(d) For the purposes of this section, the term "material that is harmful to minors"
means any communication, consisting of nudity, sex, or excretion, that, taken
as a whole and with reference to its context-
(1) predominantly appeals to a prurient interest of minors;
(2) is patently offensive to prevailing standards in the adult community as a
whole with respect to what is suitable material for minors; and
(3) lacks serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value for minors.
(e) For the purposes of subsection (d), the term "sex" means acts of masturbation,
sexual intercourse, or physcial [1] contact with a person's genitals, or the condition
of human male or female genitals when in a state of sexual stimulation or arousal.
"America's
children will be better protected from every parent's worst nightmare -- sexual
predators -- thanks to passage of the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act
of 2006. I applaud both the House and Senate -- and in particular the leadership
of Chairman Specter in the Senate and Chairman Sensenbrenner in the House -- for
passing this comprehensive bill, which includes provisions proposed by the Department
of Justice," said US Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.
"The protection of our Nation's children has been, and will continue to be, one
of the Department's highest priorities, and we believe this bill will help us
do our job even better."
The law is already receiving criticism from those who feel it is a violation of
free speech. Blogger "Shii"
fears the language of the law prohibits even "prank links."
"So, what does this bill outlaw? You can't put prank links to Goatse anymore,
because they decieve people into viewing obscenity. More importantly, you can't
link to erotic art on a website that minors might read without explicitly explaining
its erotic nature. So, if I were to link to, say, the anime image database Danbooru,
that would be totally illegal because I didn't tell you what sort of pictures
you might find there."
What's Goatse? It's um, erm, uh…You really don't want to know.

There are three steps to search engine optimization when crafting a web site or
blog, and they are simple to execute but difficult to execute well.
Performancing.com's Nick Wilson has a
little list - only three items - of ways a site can get that all-important
flow of inbound traffic from search engines.
If this were a video, we would have to say "don't blink." Ready for the list?
1) Copywriting
2) Links
3) Networking
Pretty straightforward, isn't it? Wilson does expand on each concept, after advising
publishers to avoid the "snake oil merchants" who can do more harm than good to
a site.
Wilson approaches his list topics from a blogging perspective, a sensible approach
since Performancing focuses on bloggers with its services like the excellent blogging
plugin for Firefox.
Copywriting needs haven't changed much since publishing began, though. Write a
snappy title, and place keywords in it when they fit. Copy for an article should
be built to attract links, and organized in a readable format.
Outbound links are not a bad thing. Giving readers outbound links to quality resources
enhances one's reputation and does not hurt a site's page rank. And readers love
lists and how-to articles.
Good copy is linkable copy. That enhances how the mysterious search engine algorithms
view a site. A variety of inbound links, preferably from keywords related to the
subject of a post, have tremendous value. Wilson doesn't see great benefit from
link exchange schemes, since superior copy will draw links anyway.
Also encourage others to post an article to sites like Digg and del.icio.us, both
of which can drive a lot of traffic to a post very quickly. Those visitors may
include bloggers with similar interests who will link to a post from their sites
afterward.
Networking is a more nebulous topic. Wilson encourages bloggers to look at similar
blogs, and comment and participate in their conversations in a constructive way.
Sites beyond blogs, like forums, groups, and newsletters, can be a resource of
like-minded people.
It's very important not to abuse those potential networking opportunities, because
that behavior will backfire. Bad publicity may be better than no publicity in
Hollywood, but it's a much different story online.
All of these steps can lead to more search traffic. At worst, one will have a
higher-quality blog than most, and that isn't a bad thing in itself.

Does
IP Location of backlinks effect Results?
I am suprised to discover that I have a lot of first page results in http://www.google.co.in
(useless to me) and I can't be found as easily on Google.com for competitive keywords.
I have a good number of backlinks from Indian sites and this leads me to ask the
question: "Does the IP location of backlinks effect the search results?"
I would welcome any thoughts, or comments. If you don't agree, feel free to monkey
slap me.

Are
we in an update on google?
Has there or is there changes happening at google at the moment? Our website is up and down a lot on google. One minute it is there the next minute its gone.
I noticed this last week that it had slipt completely from the rankings for a term which we were number one "Body Jewelry Shopping" it then came back and was number one for a few days this week and then today its completely gone again. This is the same on some other search terms.
Ive also noticed that the number of pages returned keeps jumping around. The other day it was showing 51million pages for the term Body Jewelry Shopping and today 63 million.
Is there an update happening or is it just our site is slipping down the SERPS?
