Money Stampede. Jupiter Research forecast recently that holiday retail sales will be $17 billion this year. According to their report, last-minute shopping is big. Do you retailers out there offer your customers the ability to ship things overnight? If not you'll be missing out on some serious cash.

Size Matters? In regards to looking big vs. being honest about the size of your company, I got an email from a software development team of two. They said, "the problem is that larger software houses and web design studios suggest that the client is never going to get the same level service from a smaller company."

He didn't tell me exactly how large firms undermine smaller firms, but I thought I'd share a link to Fog Creek, a software company whose owner has a blog. Being overt about the size of your company can be an advantage, especially if you have the time for a blog, or some pictures of you at work in the office.

The guys who wrote me also said that "we pride ourselves on the level of our personal service." I think good customer service must be one of your main selling points if you're a small company, and a site with a human/personal side can emphasize this.

Paris Hilton. Proof that guerilla marketing can go too far. Enough said.

En français. I've had the pleasure of writing back and forth with some of my French-speaking readers lately with the help of babelfish, about.com's French section, and two years of French in college (just enough to get me in trouble). Still, it would be nice if there were a site that was specifically for ebusiness translations, with words like SEO, email, and web development. And all those verb conjugations.

WhoIs? You seasoned webpros out there will know to search the whois database before planning your next website, just to make sure no one else already owns the domain you want to use. Be sure to buy your domain at the beginning of your next project too. It's no fun getting sniped on a domain name.

SOHO Boom. Many of you gentle readers run your businesses from home. Make sure you're targeting other businesses like you! Your sector's spending over 100 billion US a year. Read this article to learn more about selling to your fellow business owners.

How To Improve Search Ranking With Content

By Ross Dunn

Just how important is content to the search engines? We all know that well written content is paramount to maintaining repeat traffic to a web site but just what qualities pique the ‘interest' of the major search engines? This can be a convoluted topic where the unique characteristics of each search engine are considered to create highly appealing content. In most cases, however, the general concepts are all that you will need to know to attain a positive search engine placement, especially when you are focusing on less competitive goals. After all, accuracy is not always required when your target is as big as a barn and you are only a few feet away.

For maximum effectiveness, content should be:

Just a few years ago, businesses were flocking to the online Promised Land, only to find that the internet is no King Midas. The fact remains that there is no easy way to success; without hard work, quality content, and savvy marketing skills, your site (and business) may wind up down the drain. I Hope, today's featured posts will help you along the road to success.

Which Strategy Works Best?

Which Promotion Strategy Works Best? I am relatively new in dealing with SE/e-promotion. I [would] like to get an idea of what's the best way to go when it comes to market my site. I've heard many strategies by many people.

Here is a poll to help those including myself to understand the pros and cons. I am not going to list all strategies so people can comment on not just the popular ones, but some of the unconventional ones.

To start with, we have SEO, Adword, AdBox, text links, link exchange, PPC..... Your input is much appreciated...

A Slow Death At Internet Speed

By TheBigNY

We have gathered today to lay to rest the many small businesses that ran to the Internet looking for a cash cow, but only to find that the Internet is just business starting with the letter "e" instead of "b." Please watch your step.

Doing business online is nothing more than doing business a bit faster. The problem arises when businesses fail to realize that there are times when slowing down is important; otherwise your business will experience a painful death at Internet speed. It is very sad to go website where a flourishing business once stood, only to be greeted by either a "the page you requested could not be loaded" page or Netster. I haven't decided which is more annoying. .... These businesses get online, want to make it big fast and before they can really figure things out and see the difference between what they want to offer the marketplace and what the marketplace actually wants from them, they have spent too much on this, that and the other. After that happens all they could do is watch their business dreams die a slow death at Internet speed ...
