Hello
Readers,
Do you have a Google ToolBar on your browser? I do - and I use it all the
time, to check page rank, check for backwards links (pages that link to
whatever page I'm on), and to start a search.
Here's what I didn't know about using the Google ToolBar: it's keeping track
of all the sites I visit everyday, whether I find them through Google or not.
Here's a quote from Google's privacy policy: "Google may share information
about you with advertisers, business partners, sponsors, and other third parties."
According
to this PCMag article,
these info gathering tactics only affect those who use the advanced ToolBar features,
including the page rank indicator.
In other Google news, Google just started a new advertising program, called
"Content-Targeted Adwords." They feed targeted ads into skyscrapers
and
banners on one of three sites - Blogger.com, HowStuffWorks.com, and the
Weather Underground. I imagine they'll be adding a few more sites into the
bargain.
According to this internetnews.com
article: "Google is offering its AdWords customers free clicks through
March 12. After then, advertisers will be charged on a cost-per-click (CPC)
basis with a maximum CPC and a daily budget."
Watch for Google AdWords coming soon to a banner near you.
I'd like to start a help wanted section in WebProNews. If you have a web-related
job you need done, please send the details to me. I'll post your job in the sidebar
and an enterprising and well-informed WebProNews reader will contact you to discuss
terms. Send your jobs here.
This issue is dedicated to those of you who have to pay taxes. In honor of
this joyous time of year, I asked Wayne Davies for some articles about saving
money on taxes. If you have any tax questions, send
Wayne an email.
Since tax time comes at different times of the year in different countries,
(doesn't it?) I also added a fantastic article on email sales messages, by
Marilynne Rudick and Leslie O'Flahavan.
Best Wishes,
