If you notice others obtaining inappropriately high search engine rankings by
'spamming' the search engines, should you report it, or wait for the search engine

Aggregate submissions continue to pour in. We'll publish the list early next
week, so be sure to submit your favorite aggregate site today!
Some people have asked, so I thought I'd say it here: a niche aggregate site is
a site with a collection of links to sites that all focus on one niche. Sometimes
they require pay for listing, and over time they can become quite popular.
Many people have submitted their niche sites in search of an aggregate site, which
got me thinking... Are there any services out there on the web that help niche
sites find their aggregate? If not, you should consider becoming the first ASM
(Aggregate Site Marketer). When I publish the list of niche sites without a home
you'll have your first leads!
Today's issue features two conflicting answers to one important SEO question:
should you REsubmit your site to search engines?
Robin Nobles says no, and Roxanne McHenry says yes. I've included their answers
here, and I'll provide space in the next issue for both sides to have their say.
In the mean time, SEOs send me your best resubmission advice, and everyone else
let me know you're interested in finding the answer.

Assistant, for her extra effort on stopping fraud.

I am webmaster for a small non-profit organization promoting the Aquaculture industry.
We have a mailing list of approx 3000 and I am trying to determine what software
package is the best for managing mailing lists and sending out HTML email such
as WebPro news does.
Could you recommend a package?

"In the 'olden days' it was a good thing to re-register a web site repeatedly.
This is a thing of the past. Witness Yahoo; resubmission there ain't going to
cut it, unless you send $299 with each submission. "I believe at this
juncture if you do it right the first time out, no further "re-registration" is
necessary. "What is your group's opinion here?"
Marv Dealy Throckmorten Enterprises
Robin Nobles:
Submission guidelines have changed drastically. My recommendations now are NOT
to resubmit your pages if they are already in an engine's index.
If you make major changes to the page, your best bet is to let the engine find
those changes during its next spider run. Ideally, use pay inclusion, because
the engines will spider your pages on a much more frequent and reliable basis.
With Inktomi, for example, you can make changes to your pages and see those changes
show up in the search results for some of the Inktomi-powered engines often within
days!
Robin Nobles, Professional SEO and Trainer Academy
of Web Specialists Roxanne McHenry:
You're right; it's not always necessary to resubmit your site to the search engines
anymore. Each one has different guidelines, but once your site is indexed, there's
no need to do continual resubmissions.

The rule of thumb is to resubmit if your site has a major change, or until your
site is included on the search engine submitted to. Most search engines update
their database every 4-6 weeks, so no more than monthly submission will do. You
can check if your site's indexed at most search engines by typing the full URL
(http://www.yourname.com ) in the search field or using advanced search.
Paid submissions for directories like Yahoo! or search engines, like Altavista
and Inktomi based MSN, have the advantage of keeping your site included for the
paid time period. Some of these paid submissions also update often which picks
up any site changes immediately.

Affiliate
Marketing 101

There are many sites that list affiliate schemes - such as Refer-it.com,
and AssociatePrograms.com.
They offer reviews and ranking systems to help you choose the appropriate schemes.
After selecting the Affiliates you want to work with, start incorporating text
links, banners and interactive links that the Affiliate sites will provide you
with. I assume you have checked that the Affiliate is well established, is not
going belly up, and pays its affiliates! If in doubt, use the Services of Commission
Junction or LinkShare, who have a
vast choice of pre-screened affiliate programs.
Improving Affiliate Sales
First, weave your affiliate links into pages that are relevant on your web site.
The most effective response is where the link is worked into the text on your
page. A personal recommendation is particularly effective at getting the user
to click. Remember to only pre-sell to the user - do not try to sell off the page!
All you are trying to do is get the user to click to the Affiliate site that will
do all the selling for you. So part of your affiliate analysis you should be doing
is looking at the Affiliate Partner site pages. Would you buy? Are they compulsive?
Do they use autoresponders to send sales messages over a period of time? If not,
perhaps you should be looking for a better affiliate.
A most effective marketing method is using mini-sites for your "affiliate products"
- one or two pages sites that are very targeted. They are much easier to promote,
and get better rankings in the search engines. Experts recommend having a "gateway"
site with links to all your mini-sites. Make sure you link well between sites,
and not only will this help in Search Engine rankings but also cross-selling across
your sites.
Here is the killer tip! Go to
ClickBank.com - they have an affiliate market-place that ranks sites in order
of income. You need to become a member - click here to become a member. Then look
at the affiliate program details for affiliates in different categories.
Choose top income generators from suitable categories - I guarantee that they
work. ClickBank sends you emails whenever you make a sale. The beauty of this
system is that you do not even need a web site! Go to your favourite PPC engine
- Overture.com, 7Search.com, FindWhat.com and bid for some keywords, and put the
ClickBank link as the url - it will be in the form http://hop.clickbank.net/?your-id.vendor-id.
So the link in the PPC search engine will go directly to your Affiliate partner
site and you will be accredited with any sales that result.
We have started a site with links to all my favourite ClickBank affiliates - see
1stShopping.co.uk.
Finally after you start signing up for the various affiliate schemes, you will
find that most programs are two-tier (or better). This means that you can also
promote your chosen affiliates programs to other marketeers. Users who sign up
from your links to your Affiliates programs will generate income for you too!
Where can you promote your affiliate links? I recommend my own AffiliateShowcase.
