Amazon.com had a record-breaking holiday season. Their 12th season surpassed all previous sales records according to the company. The busiest day of the holiday season was December 11. On that day customer orders were over 4 million.

"We are truly grateful to our customers," said Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO of Amazon.com. "Happy holidays and happy new year to all from Amazon.com employees around the globe."

Amazon shipped 99 percent of their orders in time for holiday deadlines around the world. On their peak day they shipped 3.4 million units and during the holiday season they shipped to more than 200 countries.

In addition 1,000 xbox 360s were sold in 29 seconds and 1,000 Axion portable DVD players were sold in 34 seconds for a special promotion called Amazon Customers Vote. Amazon also sold orange flavored Airborne health supplements in enough quantities to supply every passenger on 192 Boeing 747s.

Some of the top sellers for video games were New Super Mario Bros., Brain Age and Madden Football. Top sellers in the DVD category were Pirates of the Caribbean - Dead Man's Chest (Two-Disc Collectors Edition), Cars (Widescreen Edition) and An Inconvenient Truth. For the music category customer's top picks were Awake by Josh Groban, Love by the Beatles and Wintersong by Sarah McLachlan.

Amazon has firmly established itself in the online world. The convenience of ordering online during the busy holiday season is why they will remain a force in online retail. As one blogger wrote, "With online shopping, there is no need to visit multiple stores looking for an item that is out of stock. There is also no need to camp out overnight to get your favorite holiday item. All you need for online shopping is a computer and an Internet connection."
