Online Holiday Sales Could Reach $19 Billion
Online holiday sales keep soaring and breaking records. So far this season online sales have seen a number of milestones. First there was the over hyped Cyber Monday on November 27, 2006 which saw online sales reach $608 million. One week later on Monday December 4, a new record was reached as consumers spent $647 million online.
That is $39 million more than was spent on Cyber Monday according to comScore Networks.
The online holiday sales kept on breaking previous records. On Monday December 11, sales rocketed to $661 million setting a third record of the holiday season.
Wait! That's not all, to paraphrase those sketchy infomercials. On Wednesday December 13 the record was broken again. Online holiday sales topped out at $667 million for the day.
Commenting on the record-setting pace, Gian Fulgoni, chairman of comScore Networks, said, "This demonstrates consumers' willingness to rely on retailers' late-season shipping guarantees."
An estimate from comScore projects that online holiday spending through December 15 will reach a total of $19 billion. This would be a 25 percent increase when compared to the same time period from last year.
"Later shipping deadlines this season and the fact that many consumers received a paycheck on December 15 could keep online sales in full swing early next week," said Mr. Fulgon.
Maybe there will be some more online record breaking days. If not there is always next year.
