Google To Put You To The Test?
A new Google service has been spotted; it might issue tests and exams to students. The service could quiz potential job candidates, as well. Or it could do something else entirely, or even die before it ever makes it out of the developmental stage, but screenshots of Google Online Assessments have proven that the service is, in fact, real.
Philipp Lenssen was able to view the page, and posted the results on Google Blogoscoped (credit for the original discovery goes to Christian of Googlified, as Lenssen noted). The Google Online Assessments page, unfortunately, was mostly blank (except for the phrase "Access Denied" in red letters).
In the "Comments" section of Lenssen's post, things get interesting. "TOMHTML" noted, "If you check the CSS file you got information thanks to the name of the classes:
mistakes, essay_topic, word_count, datePicker . . . candidate_action, personal_information, pi_directions, review_desc, choose_exam."
"INFORMANT" then added that "Google has already built their own internal HR and applicant tracking systems, including interview and evaluation forms. It is only logical that these will eventually be offered to outside users. It looks like this is a simple interface to one component designed to be part of an 'HR for Enterprise/Apps' user base."
The Google Online Assessments site has been taken down, and the Google Press Center has been quiet all day, so the service obviously isn't ready to go public just yet. Still, that screenshot and those CSS class names have opened up some very interesting possibilities.
