Google Parks Trailers With Movie Listings

Searching for a movie on Google will return a link to the film's trailer along with the reviews and showtimes that have been appearing in the Google Onebox.

Picture this - it's Friday night, and your beloved wife wants to see a movie. You've been tasked with finding the right film, as she will need a couple of hours a few minutes to get ready. Any suggestions, you ask?

"How about 'The Lake House'," she replies. Off to Google you go, to do a quick search for showtimes.

But what's this? A new link next to the movie title catches your attention. This link goes to a trailer for the film. You prudently decide to click.

Keanu Reeves is in it. But it's a romantic drama. 'The Matrix' this isn't. Oh dear.

A few minutes of frantic searching through flicks like "An Inconvenient Truth" and "My Super Ex-Girlfriend" leaves you nearly despondent. Until one movie gleams like neon.

"Hey honey, 'Miami Vice' is playing!"

She agrees, but you'll be cleaning the garage all weekend. That's ok. At least Google gave you the heads-up and spared you torment by cinematic romance.

Google made a simple tweak to its movie results that show up in the search results. Matthias Ruhl, Research Scientist (& Google Movies 20%-er), posted about the update in the Google Blog:

The best way to get your summer movie questions answered is to watch the trailers using the Google Movies onebox. Just search for the movie name and your Zip/city on Google.com, and the first result will include a link to the trailer, as well as critics' reviews and showtimes for your local movie theater.

Thanks Google!
