Ebay Is For Selling Stuff, Not People
For the last time, people, you can't auction off just anything on eBay - for example, yourself and your kids. Can't. Can't can't can't. If you'd like to auction yourself off (leave the kids out of it), try Craigslist. Just watch out for cops.
ABC News reported last week that a woman attempted to auction herself and her children on eBay. Seeking an escape from an abusive husband, the Cleveland woman was hoping to receive a new home in the trade.
"This relationship can be what you want it to be," said the ad. "It can be casual or friendlier which lead into marriage if we see fit whatever would benefit my children and of course you and me."
After a slew of angry emails, the woman admitted she was looking for a knight in shining armor to take her away.
"I know this seems unusual," she said, "but it is better then the bar scene."
EBay was quick to remove the advertisement, saying it violated the auction site's prohibited services policy, which includes virtual relationships.
If you are in or know anyone in an abusive relationship, there are safe places to go. If you/they have Internet access, you go can here, here, here, or even here. EBay (or Craigslist for that matter) is not the place to go.
