Google Finds Registry, Groom Finds Doghouse
If you'd like yet another way to freak out your bride before the wedding, tell her about how search engines can screw up your gift registry. Search Engine Roundtable's Barry Schwartz learned that one the hard way.
Here's how it works:
· You set up a wedding website about your pending nuptials complete with links to various gift registries.
· Search engines say, "hey look a link!" and index your registry page.
· A searcher looking for that exact garlic press buys one for herself and two more for her garlic-loving friends, not knowing it's a registry, and have them shipped to her house.
· Wedding-well-wishers check out the registry, see you've got at least 3 garlic presses coming your way and skip it.
· The Bride-to-be asks, "why are we being sent 7 coffee makers and 13 cheese graters? And why is none of this stuff showing up at the door?"
· The groom gets in deep trouble for adding one more thing to worry about before the big day.
"My fiancee now needs to zero out all the 'fraudulent' gift orders," writes Schwartz. "Yeah, she is pretty upset with me about this."
Meanwhile, Barry points us to a story of wedding registry crime, adding another reason not to see the bride before the ceremony.
