Interest In Online TV Grows
An increasing number of Internet users are showing interest in viewing television content online. One research firm believes IPTV potential "solid." It also showed that Google needs to work on its sales pitches and that Yahoo! users are hipper.
According to new research from Points North Group and Horowitz Associates, Inc., respondents showed more interest in Yahoo! Go video service but are warm to Google Video.
After reading a description of Google and Yahoo video services, one third of the 500 people surveyed expressed interest in Google Video and 41% are interested in Yahoo! Go.
The idea of TV content through the Internet was especially popular with the 18-34 year old age group, with 54% interested in Yahoo! Go and 46% interested in Google Video.
Those that chose Yahoo! seem to be a bit more flexible in their choice of viewing technology. Thirty-one percent favored the use of a computer or laptop; 14% said TV; 10% said cell phone or PDA; and 5% said iPod or similar device.
For Googlites, favored devices skewed toward larger screens with 22% choosing their computer or laptop; 20% chose the TV; 4% selected an iPod or related entertainment device, and 3% picked a cell phone or PDA.
