No Deal For Nokia And ITunes
After media reports said that Nokia would be offering Apple's iTunes music service on its N91 phones, Nokia came forward and declared this to be false.
The two companies have made no such agreement, but that is not to say that software couldn't be developed to allow such services on the phones according to Nokia.
"There is no commercial agreement between Nokia and Apple to integrate iTunes into the N-series devices," said a Nokia spokesman. "But since this is based on a computer platform, anybody - including Apple, if they so wish - can very easily develop this kind of application and offer it to consumers, via the internet, for example."
The rumor that the two companies had a deal worked out apparently started at Finnish paper Taloussanomat.
Reuters, who broke the news that there was no deal, points out that Nokias music phones have been viewed as direct competition with Apple's iPod and iTunes.
"We are not making any exclusive arrangements with any music store, but believe that we want to give the consumer the choice of where they want to purchase their music," said the spokesman.
