UK Government Launches Virus Warning Site
Yesterday, the government for the United Kingdom launched a web site designed to offer computer virus/security-related news and information for anyone who would like to access the site.
The site, ITsafe, promises "IT Security Awareness For Everyone," and is financed by UK's Home Office. According to their pdf, "The service, a Home Office funded initiative, uses information provided by the National Infrastructure Security Co-ordination Centre (NISCC) - the Government's centre for electronic defence. It aims to reassure users by advising them on how best to protect their personal and business data."
ITsafe features current bulletins, an email sign-up update service, plain English explanations of complicated threats and an archive to store previous bulletins and alerts.
Home Office Minister Hazel Blears said about the goal of ITsafe, "There is a clear need for easy-to-understand and simple independent advice for non-technically minded people who use computers either at home or at work. The purpose of this new Government service is to ensure computer users are aware of the risks involved and how to deal with them easily and effectively without causing alarm."
