Apple Lowers IPod Prices
Aside from introducing four new iPod models, Apple is lowering prices on other models its popular music player.
Apple has taken off $50 from the four-gigabyte iPod which is now $199. A new six-gigabyte version will go at $249.
"Now that competition is finding little wedges to get in, Apple has blanketed the whole market at $50 increments," said Rik Myslewski, editor-in- chief of MacAddict magazine. "I think that they're just solidifying their position and locking out competition."
Some of the iPod colors have changed as well, and battery life has been improved on all iPod Minis.
"The 60-gigabyte "iPod photo," introduced in October, which can display photos on its small colour screen or when connected to a TV set, was cut to $449 from $599. A new 30-gigabyte model for $349 replaces a 40-gigabyte version for $499.
Apple also said it expects to start selling a cable that allows the transfer of photos straight from a digital camera to an iPod photo, eliminating the need for a computer. The iPod Camera Connector is expected to be available in late March for $29."
