Shmoogle Lifts Up The Little Guy

Countless ideologue progenitors have warned against the rule of the mob-Aristotle, Shakespeare, Thomas Jefferson, to name a few. In the brave new world of the Internet, a new search engine, in philosophic (and satirical?) alliance has popped up in opposition to the masses that control Google results. Shmoogle loftily aims to represent the little guys that often go ignored.

Shmoogle Lifts Up the Little Guy

Shmoogle, the world's "first non-deterministic search engine" was developed by runme.org's Tsila (ouch, I bit my tongue) Hassine. Using Google's own results, Shmoogle takes the throwbacks of search queries and mixes them up. Shmoogle is a self-proclaimed Google randomizer.

In the name of diversity, Shmoogle takes aim at giving "common authors an equal chance of exposure."

"Shmoogle instantly neutralizes Page rank and the whole SEO industry induced by it.
Yet it addresses other fundamental issues such as retrievability vs. visibility. While all pages on the net are equally retrievable, they are certainly not equally visible," said Hassine.

Currently, the site appears not to be working, as queries are resulting in an error page. Hassine has been thus far unavailable for comment.

Until the site corrects its errors, however, we can still have fun with some name experiments. DocBug began the game with these suggestions:

· Dictoogle: rank sites in the order the elite think you should see.

· Diversoogle: give higher rank to those that have the fewest incoming links, in an effort to increase diversity and raise up websites less fortunate than the more popular ones.

· Confugle: Instead of giving results directly related to your search, give results that are only metaphorically related. Include a Wiki for users to write their best guess as to why a page was included.

· Voyeugle: See the results from the previous person's query instead of your own.
