Java programmers will want to check out the planning information provided by Sun Microsystems for this year's version of JavaOne in San Francisco, taking place May 16-19 at the Moscone Center.

It's never too early to plan out a conference trip. Considering the size and quality of JavaOne, and its appeal to coders worldwide, a scant month to the start of the conference should be motivation to make those arrangements as soon as possible.

Conference Pass and Conference Plus Pass options exist, depending on an attendee's desire to have Java University as part of their experience. Prices have been discounted $100 for early-bird registrations, now through May 15th. JavaOne offers educational faculty and student pricing options as well.

Session topics focus on the various Java platforms, SE, EE, and ME, along with other topics of interest. Leading Edge sessions on the latest developments in Java technology include ones that discuss developing Ajax applications using Java, for one example.

A trio of Industry Panels will consider Java along with other technologies like SOA and Ajax, as well as how pieces of an SOA runtime are already becoming available in open source.

Several Technical Case Studies walk through various types of application development using Java. One of the sessions discusses writing a Sony Playstation emulator using Java, while another suggest several troubleshooting tips when working with Java ME.

A series of Tutorials proceeds step by step through a number of topics. Attendees can learn how to use the Event Dispatch thread in Swing, or craft a way to integrate email with Java web applications.

The Advanced How-Tos get into the headier practical applications of Java technology, a considerable step above the essentials in the Tutorials sessions. Fifty-nine scheduled sessions include ones on Enterprise Java Beans, Ajax, Swing, data binding, and other topics.

Once registered, attendees can plan out their sessions using the Schedule Builder application. JavaOne said attendees must use Schedule Builder to get into preferred sessions.
